Halibut Fishing Report

by ryno on September 28, 2011

We did a quick evening trip last night and had a great time!  Didn’t run far, and found some great fish. 8 Quillback rockfish, 1 Yelloweye Rockfish, 3 Pacific cod, some other random rockfish species, and 5 nice Halibut.  We were fishing a piece of hard structure that had a really nice sandy-gravel trench on top of it.  The trench appeard to only be about 20-30 feet wide, and as we swung in the wind over it, the fish were eager to bite!  It was about 20′ deep as the rocky sides were reading about 285′ and the trench was about 305′.  As we hit the center of the trench, the halibut and cod would bite, and on the edges, the rockfish.  This is the fun of halibut fishing…finding small spots that hold fish in a big ocean!

As the coming season looks to be busy with loads of cruise ships in town, dates will fill up early.  Contact us today to book your Halibut Fishing Charter, or Salmon Fishing Trip!
