Ketchikan has so much to do even if you are in for only a short time. In fact there are more shore excursions offered by Holland America Lines in Ketchikan than any other port in the world! It obviously costs more to book on the ship as they want to make all the money they can. Fishing is very high in popularity for cruise ship passengers as our fishing grounds are so close to town. We DO NOT book through the ships. We are strictly independent. If you book on the cruise ships, you may end up in a boat as small as 20′ and with 5 other people. I wish I had a picture of some of these Jam-Packed boats to show you. Trust me, it is not comfortable! The charters that are listed on the cruise ships simply have “the deal” with them.
